Pre-monsoon showers bring respite from scorching heat in Jammu

JAMMU: Pre-monsoon showers today brought respite from blistering heat in this winter capital  of the state.

It was a bright sunny day but late in the afternoon but duststorm followed by heavy rainfall brought relief to the people from hot weather conditions.

“These were pre-monsoon showers and till the end of this month, showers will occur after the  temperature rises,” Dr Sonam Lotus, Director, MeT J&K here .

He said the monsoon may hit Jammu and Kashmir in July first week but till then, showers may hit the region.

Jammu, this season witnessed maximum 43.6 degrees Celsius temperature while since May end, the mercury fluctuated between 40 degrees to 42 degrees.

Children enjoyed the rain while waterlogged roads halted the vehicular movement.

All government and private schools are already closed for summer vacation from June 6 to July 17. (AGENCIES)
