Rs 8.45 lakh penalty imposed on shops

JAMMU, July 1: Excise Department has intensified the enforcement activities in different parts of Jammu division which resulted in the destruction of 7215 kg of Lahan, destruction of three working stills, 205 litres of illicit liquor.
Official sources said that on the directions of Excise Commissioner, Pankaj Kumar Sharma, and under the supervision of Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive), Jammu Kusum Sharma, the department conducted surprise inspections in different ranges across the Jammu division to address the issues related to overcharging by shops and booked various wine shops and imposed heavy penalties on the erring wine shops.
The wine shops which have been recently booked are Surjit Singh Wine Shop Kathua, Moonlight Wine Shop Lakhanpur, Sat Paul Wine Shop Kathua, Sudesh Kumar Wine Shop Rehari, Chankar Singh Wine Shop Ward 66-A, Roopnagar; Jasbir Singh Wine Shop Nagrota, Vijay Kumar Wine Shop Narwal; Danish Tanakiya Wine Shop RS Pura, Simson Charak Wine Shop, Pouni Reasi- Udhampur; Raj Kumar Wine Shop Thathri, Ashok Kumar Wine Shop, Sanjay Singh Wine Shop, Ramban.
The Department realised an amount of Rs 8.45 lakhs as penalty from for violations from these outlets.
Recognizing the grave threat posed by the illicit liquor, the Excise teams launched targeted crackdown on this nefarious activity and destroyed more than 7215 kgs of Lahan, 03 working stills and 205 litres of illicit liquor which is highly injurious to health.
Excise Commissioner said that the Department remains resolute in its pursuit of creating a fair and transparent business environment while safeguarding public welfare. He said the Department has strictly warned the wine shops owners not to indulge into any such activities which violates the provisions of License conditions. He stated that in all the wine shops Vend Information Board are displayed wherein the phone numbers of concerned Range Inspectors are displayed for the convenience of general public and urged the customers to use digital mode of payment system while making payments at wine shops.
