Pregnant lady dies due to alleged negligence of doctors

*Relatives protest, case registered

DODA, July 17: A 35-year-old pregnant lady died at District Hospital here due to alleged negligence of the doctors. However, the relatives of the lady held protest and demanded probe into the death.
As per reports, Shaista Begum (35), wife of Imtiaz Ahmed Khan of Village Binolla Tehsil Chirallah was admitted in DH Doda yesterday evening from Sub Centre Binola due to labour pain.
“Late last night, the lady developed extreme pain and I approached the doctors and nurses to treat my wife, but no one paid heed towards my repeated requests, due to which my wife died”, husband of the lady said.
As the relatives of the lady came to know about her death, they rushed to District Hospital and held protest against the doctors and other staff members of the hospital.
“The lady died as there was no gynecologist available in the hospital during night hours and the nurses posted the Gynae Department, not cooperated with the family”, the protestors alleged and demanded probe into the death of the lady.

When contacted, Superinte-ndent of the District Hospital Doda, Parvez Iqbal Wani told the EXCELSIOR that the doctors started the treatment of the lady as soon as she reached the hospital.
“This was the seventh baby of the lady. The baby had died before the lady was brought to DH. The death of the baby in the womb might be the reason behind the lady’s death, but we have constituted a three members to conducted the probe, which will submit its in the shortest possible time”, Wani said, adding that anyone found guilty will not be spared and will be taken to task.
A case under FIR Number 118/2018 under Section 304-A RPC has been registered at Police Station Doda and investigation started.
Meanwhile, the family of the deceased called on Deputy Commissioner and brought to his notice that local Sub-Centre at Binola in Thathri was closed for several days which forced them to rush patient to District Hospital Doda.
On this, Deputy Commissioner Simrandeep Singh directed Block Medical Officer Thathri to visit the Sub-Centre Binola and check the attendance of the staff posted there. During visit, the BMO found two Female Multi Purpose Health Workers namely Aruna Devi and Zahida Begum absent and Sub-Centre locked.
“Prima facie it appears to be a case of gross negligence on the part of local health officials at Block Thathri which ultimately culminated into death of an unborn child and the mother at District Hospital Doda”, reads the order of Deputy Commissioner.
In the light of these facts, the Deputy Commissioner has ordered suspension of Aruna Devi and Zahida Begum with immediate effect and initiation of time bound departmental enquiry under CC&A Rules.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Doda has been asked to make alternate arrangements for the functioning of Sub-Centre Binola.
