JAMMU, Apr 30: JKPCC working president Raman Bhalla today said that the BJP regime is against the idea of strengthening the grass root democracy and is not giving due benefits to elected Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs).
“Present BJP Government is weakening the Panchayat Raj in J&K as they have snatched the 15th Finance Commission funds from PRIs on J&K which is big blow to the people of J&K and there is hundreds of crores liability of MNREGA funds, as people in J&K have not got the payments since 2017-18,” said Bhalla while addressing elected PRIs during 2nd day of the 2-day training camp (Sarvodaya Sankalp Shivir) organized by Rajiv Gandhi Panchayati Raj Sangathan (RGPRS), AICC at Bermini, here. He said that Congress party will fight for the rights and powers of PRIs.
AICC RGPRS vice chairman Harshwardhan in his address said that Congress worked as per vision of Rajiv Gandhi to decentralize the power and Panchayati Raj was implemented in this country by Congress party but this regime believes in centralization of power and country is witnessing dictatorship. He briefed that RGPRS is going to play a very important role in coming days as the purpose of this organization is to find out potential local leadership in the Congress and to train them to project them as leaders.
Shahnawaz Choudhary said that Sankalp Shivir will help us to strengthen party at grass root level and will also help us in identifying leaders which can be trained for next level. He said that such trainings of elected PRIs will help them in serving common people who elect them and also taking ideology of party from door to door.
Also present on the occasion were AICC RGPRS Incharge J&K Arvind Bagh, JKPYC president Uday Bhanu Chib, Jatinder Singh Chib and NSUI state president Ajay Lakhotra. The several elected PRIs of Congress Party including DDC members, BDC chairmen, corporators and sarpanchs participated in the two-day camp.
