JAMMU, June 30: J&K Border Area Development Conference (BADC), working for the welfare of border areas of J&K has expressed serious concern over the dilapidated condition of heritage buildings and monuments in border areas of J&K especially in twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
Laying stress on importance for preservation of these buildings of historical significance, J&K-BADC urged upon the Archaeological Survey of India and J&K Government to adopt scientific methods to preserve and protect these monuments.
In a handout, Dr. Shazad Ahmed Malik, chairman BADC while making a fervent appeal to the Government said these historic monuments are keyholes to peep into human history.
He said that these monuments not only show our traditions and culture but also technological aspects of the past.
Malik said that these historic buildings including forts and shrines are witness of our ancestors’ history and even today they can serve as showcase to the outer world and have a lot of tourism potential thus the government must consider in preservation of these monuments and bringing them on tourism map of J&K.
He claimed that already huge loss has been caused to the heritage buildings near the Line of Control and International Border thus it is high time that during peace time we take measures to safeguard them.
