JAMMU, May 26: President of India, Pranab Mukherjee has given approval for appointment of three new Judges to J&K High Court and formal notification in this regard is likely to be issued next week.
As already reported exclusively by EXCELSIOR, Advocate S K Shukla, former District and Sessions Judge M K Hanjura and serving District and Sessions Judge Sanjay Kumar Gupta will be new Judges of the High Court.
Advocate S K Shukla is practicing in the High Court for the last several years while as M K Hanjura is presently serving as Presiding Officer of Food Safety Appellate Tribunal, Jammu. Sanjay Kumar Gupta is presently serving as Principal District and Sessions Judge, Jammu.
The sanctioned strength of J&K High Court is 17 including Chief Justice. However, at present there are only nine judges. These included Justice R Sudhakar, Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, Justice Alok Aradhe, Justice Ali Mohd Magrey, Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur, Justice Tashi Rabstan, Justice Janak Raj Kotwal and Justice Bawa Singh Walia besides Chief Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed.
With the appointment of three more Judges, the strength will go up to 12.
It is pertinent to mention here that EXCELSIOR in its edition dated April 10, 2017 had exclusively highlighted that Supreme Court Collegium has recommended three names to the Union Law Ministry for appointment as Judges of J&K High Court.
