Nwe Delhi : Modi and Obama to hold extensive talks on strategic issues including nuclear and defence at Hyderabad House later today.

Barack Obama’s cavalcade reaches Hotel Maurya. The presidential couple will later head to the Rashtrapati Bhavan for a ceremonial reception at noon.

: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also left the Palam technical area.

After Modi introduced Obama and Michelle to other officials present at the tarmac, the three of them waved to the waiting media. Later the US President and the First Lady left for Hotel Maurya in the presidential limousine ‘The Beast’.

US President Barack Obama’s Air Force One has landed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Reports said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will personally welcome him at the airport.

Union Coal, Power and Renewable Energy Minister Piyush Goyal, who will be Barack Obama’s minister-in-waiting, has left for Palam airport from his residence.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said that the visit of the US president is high on substance and symbolism. “Energy, trade, defence and economy are on our agenda. I can assure you that outcomes in terms of symbolism an substance would be historical,” he said. He added that the two countries have shared an expansive relationship in variety of sectors and substantial outcomes are expected after discussions between Obama and Modi.
Obama, during his address at the Siri Fort auditorium on Tuesday, would speak on how to tap the energy of the people of India and the US, and to turn that into positive progress on the issues that matter in people’s lives, a top official has said, the PTI reported.
Modi and Obama are likely to hold seven meetings. They will discuss issues including counter-terrorism, renewable energy and intellectual property rights.
Accompanied by his wife Michelle Obama, he is scheduled to arrive at 10 am at the Air Force Station at Palam.

An unprecedented security cover, comprising Delhi Police and paramilitary forces, has been put in place in the national capital.

The Indian intelligence agencies, security agencies are working in close coordination with the US Secret Service.

He is the first US President to be invited as the chief guest for annual Republic Day parade. Obama is the only US President to visit India twice during his term in the office.

CCTV cameras have been installed on the route in which Obama will be travelling and on Rajpath where he will visit to attend the Republic Day parade.

Ahead of the visit, the White House has said that it is “genuine honour” for the US President to be invited as the chief guest. (Agencies)
