NEW DELHI, Apr 3:
President Pranab Mukherjee has given assent to the Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, 2013, making anti-rape laws very stringent.
The Bill was passed by Lok Sabha on March 19 and by Rajya Sabha on March 21.
The President accorded assent to the Bill yesterday and it would now be called the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013, an official spokesman said today.
The Bill was brought in the wake of the December 16, 2012, brutal gangrape and subsequent death of a Delhi para-medic which had caused nationwide uproar demanding stringent laws to punish the culprits of such heinous crimes.
