NEW DELHI, Aug 9: Newly elected President of Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Aditya V. Agarwal, Director of “Emami Group of Companies”, called on Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh here today. He was accompanied by ICC Secretary General Rajeev Singh.
Agarwal gave Dr Jitendra Singh a detailed resume of the plans to widen the activities of the ICC as well as enlarge investment areas across the country and particularly in the North-Eastern region. He said, the ICC looks forward to Dr Jitendra Singh in his capacity as DoNER Minister to support and help in carrying forward the ICC plans.
Dr Jitendra Singh called upon the ICC President and Secretary General to encourage business entrepreneurs and trade leaders, particularly in fruit and tourism industry, to explore avenues in Northeast. He said, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the “organic farming” plan has been moving forward on a very fast track in the last two years and Sikkim has already achieved the distinction of becoming the first “Organic State” of India.
Referring to vast unexplored potential in the field of tourism, bamboo industry and food industry, for example, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the connectivity constraints which hitherto came in the way of promoting such plans, have been, to a great extent, overcome in the last one-and-a-half year. With rapidly enlarging rail network, national highways and more frequent air flights to new destinations, he said, Northeast soon is bound to emerge as a favourite destination for cost-effective entrepreneurship and profitable Start-up ventures.
The Chamber leaders also extended to Dr Jitendra Singh, an invitation to flag off a Car rally from New Delhi to Bangkok crossing through Guwahati and other parts of North-Eastern region, which is being undertaken with the objective of promoting trade and investment in Northeast. Dr Jitendra Singh accepted the invitation and offered to provide all possible support for the venture.
