RAJOURI, Nov 5: District Administration, Rajouri, handed over the newly established Press Club to members of print and electronic media in an impressive function organised today. It has been developed as an Institute for Development Studies and Welfare of Mediapersons.
Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Choudhary Zulfkar Ali in presence of MLA Qamar Hussain, MLC Vibodh Gupta and DC Rajouri inaugurated the Press Club.
District Development Commissioner Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary who established the Press Club in a very short span of time briefed about the composition, facilities and objectives of Press Club. The Press Club is comprised of a Press Conference Hall, Committee Room, Multipurpose Hall, Gymnasium, Library, Information-Technology Cell and e-books besides other facilities. Members of Press Club have been provided insurance cover of Rs 2 lakh apart from other facilities.
Speaking on the occasion, Choudhary Zulfkar Ali complimenting the district administration for this novel innovative establishment highlighted the commitment of State Government for welfare of media persons and profession. He said that a slew of welfare measures for media persons including insurance cover are in pipeline. He said that Press Club Rajouri is first such initiative after Jammu Press Club and there is a need to develop such institutions at all district headquarters.
The Minister reiterated the need for establishment of a Press Colony and asked the administration to prioritise measures for same. MLA Qamar Hussain and MLC Vibodh Gupta expressed their gratitude for establishment of a professional platform for media persons and for all stakeholders including NGOs, Educational organisations, political parties and other institutions.
The services of Press Club will also be utilised for Information, Education & Communication and it will work on self-financing model. A number of outreach measures of different departments are being routed through Press Club for maximum outreach and benefit to public.
