Press Club presents Ashok Sodhi Memorial Awards for Photography

JAMMU, Sept 21: 2nd Ashok Sodhi Memorial Awards for Best Photography 2016 were announced today by the four member jury, constituted by Press Club of Jammu.
Sanjeev Magotra was awarded first prize by the jury for his beautifully captured image of monkeys drinking water. Raman Raina of The Shadow won the second prize while Inderjeet Singh was awarded third prize.
Senior journalists SP Sharma and Manu Srivats, Ena Sodhi (daughter of Late Ashok Sodhi), his family members and executive members of Press Club of Jammu were present on the occasion.
Students of Central University of Jammu and Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), also attended the programme.
The photo competition was judged by the four member jury, headed by Raju Kerni, Bureau Chief, Zee News Bureau, Jammu and comprising Mohd Tauseef Mustafa, Staff Photographer, AFP, Srinagar; Channi Anand, Staff Photographer, AP, Jammu and Shib Narayan Acharya, Photographic Officer, PRO, MoD.
A total number of 25 entries were received by the screening committee.
Before the award ceremony, SN Acharaya, Jury Member, presented the report of the screening committee on behalf of the Chairman of the committee.
The awards were presented by president of Press Club, Ashwani Kumar, and Secretary General Zorawar Singh Jamwal along with Jury members.
Consolation prizes were awarded to Aman Sharma, Sarjna Rai, Mohd Ali, student and Sewa Ram, Photojournalist. Special mention awards were presented to three entries of Randeep Kumar of CUJ, Shivang Anand- student and Shilpa Thakur.
Speaking on the occasion, president Press Club of Jammu, Ashwani Kumar motivated budding photo journalists to improve their photography skills.
Secretary General Zorawar Singh Jamwal announced that Press Club of Jammu is planning to invite applications at the national level from next year.
