Sir,
This has reference to the writeup’Keeping BP at Bay’ (DE, May 17, 2018) published on the eve of World Hypertension Day.Hypertension, together with, Diabetes and Blood Pressure, is a life style disease caused due to change in life style and reduction in physical activity in the modern people. There used to be days when sans facilities and abilities, people had to do much physical labour to make both ends meet. Most of them didnot have sufficient food to eat and they suffered from nutrients related diseases such as malnutrition, undernutrition etc. But not from diabetes, high B.P. etc. Then, as a result of Green Revolution, there was enough food to feed people in our country but they still suffered from infections and other diseases. As a result of rise in financial status and tecnological/medical advancements, the economic and living standard of people became better and most of them started living a comfortable and easy life. But their physical activity decreased and sedentery life started. Now people spend a lot of their time on social media. This gave rise to these diseases which were hardly known in the days of yore. Thus, the solution lies in taking sufficient exercise, doing physical activity, avoiding smoking and other risk factors and avoiding junk and fatty food as also being contented with one’s life.Hypertension is also caused due to stress, lack of exercise/physical activity.Stress and hypertension may lead to Brain stroke and cardiac arrests. So, we must take care to ensure that we avoid fatty foods and indulge ourselves in sufficient physical activity to remain fit and healthy and avoid these diseases. Moreover, awareness camps should be organised to enlighten the people about the precautions to be observed to prevent hypertension and thus, lead a healthy and stress free life.
