PREWA reiterates demand of framing welfare fund rules

JAMMU, Mar 7: Prison Retired Employees Welfare Association (PREWA) held its 3rd annual conference at Central Jail, Kot Bhalwal, Jammu which was chaired by Director General Prisons, S K Mishra.
PREWA president Krishan Singh, while addressing the gathering gave a brief of the achievements made by the Association so far which included incorporation of a provision for the constitution of Welfare Board for RPPs, issuance of Identity Cards to RPPs, providing medical consultation by the doctors in jails, representations to RPPs in the welfare committees set up by the department etc.
Krishan Singh reiterated the demand for framing of welfare fund rules for RPPs, convening such conferences every year, giving generic medicines to RPS and their families in jails. He also raised the issues like removal of existing pay/pension and rank disparities in the conversion/ combatisation with executive cadre on police pattern and finalization of pension in respect of J S Kotwal, ex-Deputy Controller of Prisons acquitted by the court long back and the case was learnt to be lying pending in CM’s Secretariat duly recommended by the Home Department for formal approval by the Chief Minister as Minister Incharge Home stating that the retired officer is physically handicapped who was grievously injured in a fatal road accident while in  service and is unable to move about unaided.
PREWA president also raised the issue of regularization of promotion of Superintendent jails in their own pay and grade, most of whom have retired, finalization of recruitment of warders lying pending in the Home Department for approval among whom are some wards of RPPs.
The DG Prisons in his address stated that the process of drafting welfare rules for RPPs is under active consideration by the committee headed by the DIG Prisons M S Lone and at final stage representative from PREWA will also be involved. As regards other demands put forth in the conference, he assured to look into the same sympathetically in due course of time.
