Prez to address KU’s convocation

Srinagar, Oct 4: Kashmir University is gearing up to commemorate its 20th Annual Convocation, a momentous occasion where President, Draupadi Murmu, will deliver the keynote address on 11th of October next week.
Kashmir University officials confirmed to Excelsior that arrangements are underway to welcome President Murmu on her maiden visit to the Kashmir University and picturesque Valley.
Nearly 53,000 degrees will be conferred upon Graduates and Post Graduates from the 2021-2022 and mid-2023 batches, making this convocation a grand occasion.
The event would also witness the participation of approximately 320 gold medalists, comprising 65 per cent female and 35 per cent male achievers, alongside esteemed University officials and other dignitaries. This convocation celebrates academic excellence and recognises the exceptional achievements of these students.
While expressing his pride, Nissar Ahmad, the Registrar of Kashmir University, said that it was an honour for them that the President was visiting the University.
“The most important thing is that she will address the convocation. She is likely to honour the meritorious students. The preparations for the ceremony have already started,” he said.
Back in August, an official said the University formally extended a request to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who also serves as the University’s Chancellor, for the invitation of the Chief guest. Once the acceptance from the chief guest was confirmed, the University proceeded with finalising the convocation’s date and arrangements.
A notification issued by Kashmir University reiterated the details, stating, “In continuation of our earlier notification dated August 30, 2023, it is notified for the information of all the students who have registered for the convocation that the 20th annual convocation shall be held on October 11, 2023, in the Convocation Complex, Main Campus, University of Kashmir, Hazratbal, Srinagar. Draupadi Murmu, President of India, will be the chief guest and shall deliver the convocation address.”
The notification also confirmed that all students who have registered for the convocation and have been declared qualified for the award of Ph.D./M.Phil., MD/MS, and Diploma in Anaesthesiology/ Ophthalmology and Gynaecology will be presented with their degrees during the convocation.
This marks the President’s first visit to Kashmir, and sources have revealed that there are plans for a splendid light and sound show at Dal Lake in her honour in the evening. Furthermore, Murmu will be hosted by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan Srinagar, enhancing the significance of this monumental event.
