NEW DELHI, Apr 14: President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tributes to the father of the Indian Constitution Dr BR Ambedkar on his 128th birth anniversary.
The President, the Vice-President and the Prime Minister paid floral tributes at the portrait of Dr B R Ambedkar in the Parliament House here.
The President, the Vice President and the Prime Minister also paid floral tributes at the statue of Dr Ambedkar in the Parliament House Lawns here.
Earlier, the President in a tweet said, ”Homage to Dr BR Ambedkar on his birth anniversary. An icon of our nation, and Chief Architect of the Constitution, Dr Ambedkar waged a life-long struggle for a modern India free of caste and other prejudices, ensuring equal rights for women and weaker sections.”
In a series of tweets, the Vice-President said, ”Remembering Bharat Ratna BabaSaheb Dr B R Ambedkar,the father of our Constitution on his Jayanti today. He left an indelible footprint on the sands of contemporary Indian history.
A social reformer, legal luminary and an erudite scholar, he was a champion of people’s rights. He relentlessly campaigned against social discrimination and inequalities and was a firm believer in empowerment of women through education. His contribution to nation building is invaluable and his ideals will continue to inspire every Indian for all times.”
In a tweet in Hindi, the Prime Minister said, “I pay my homage to the father of Indian Constitution and social justice- Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar on his birth anniversary. Jai Bhim!”
Mr Kovind, the Vice President, the Prime Minister, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and other dignitaries including Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawarchand Gehlot, Ministers of State for Social Justice and Empowerment–Ramdas Athawale and Vijay Sampla and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel paid floral tributes at the statue of Babasaheb Dr B R Ambedkar here at Parliament House Lawns.
Several dignitaries paid floral tributes at the portrait of Dr B R Ambedkar in the Central Hall of the Parliament House on his 128th birth anniversary.
Among the dignitaries who attended the function were several Union Ministers, Members of Parliament and former MPs .
The Secretaries-General of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Snehlata Shrivastava and Desh Deepak Verma, respectively also paid floral tributes.
A booklet containing the profile of Dr B R Ambedkar, brought out by the Lok Sabha Secretariat in Hindi and English, was presented to the dignitaries. (UNI)
