JAMMU, Dec 16: A precious life was saved today by doctors of Ankur Maitrika Hospital who successfully performed primary angioplasty on the patient and opened his blocked artery.
The patient came with severe chest pain at Ankur Maitrika Hospital. The ECG of the patient showed acute ST elevation Inferior Wall Myocardial Infraction which in common language would mean a major heart attack and which if not dealt properly may lead to death of the patient.
As the patient was shifted to Cardiac Cath Lab of the Hospital, his Coronary Angiography showed nearly 99% block in one of his coronary arteries. Subsequently, a primary angioplasty was immediately done with a coronary stent and the blocked artery was successfully opened.
The patient was immediately relieved of the pain as soon as the artery was opened. The whole procedure took less than 30 minutes. This challenging procedure was done by Dr Neeraj Mahajan, Director Cath Lab and Head, Department of Cardiology, Ankur Maitrika Hospital along with his team.
Dr Neeraj Mahajan said that Myocardial Infarction, commonly known as a heart attack is the irreversible death of heart muscles due to ischemia (prolonged lack of oxygen). He said it is a medical emergency which usually occurs due to obstructed blood flow due to blood clots.
CEO of the Hospital, Mr Narendra said despite being the best treatment option for heart attack, primary angioplasty is done at very few centres all over the country. He said now, the people of Jammu need not to go outside J&K for this important facility which is now available at Ankur Maitrika Hospital.
