Primary School in Tangdhar lacks teachers, infrastructure

Srinagar, Apr 2: Government Primary School in Dramiyan Prada of zone Chamkot in North Kashmir’s Tangdhar is functioning only with a single teacher while as the school is also operating in just three rooms.
For the roll of over 35 students from KG to Class 5th, the school is having only one teacher to not only take the classes of the students but also to take care of other official work due to which the entire process of teaching at the school.
Mukhtar Hussian-who is the only teacher at the school-said that he is handling everything single-handedly and that department had provided him with another teacher, but, he said, that appointment was temporary.
“I am here for the last around 8 years and since then, I have had one teacher posted here on rationalization and was a temporary posting; he then got the orders and left; all in all, I am the only teacher handling everything, ranging from teaching to official work,” he said.
He also said that the department has now posted another teacher temporarily on the academic arrangement and that he too, will leave soon, putting an entire load of functioning of the school on him.
“The department needs to put in place the necessary permanent arrangements concerning teachers at the school so that teaching at the school is not affected due to the lack of teachers,” the concerned teacher said.
However, the officials in the district said that they have directed the concerned ZEOs to ensure that issue of a single teacher at schools is dealt with effectively and that it has also been ensured that all the schools get the required number of teachers.
ZEO, Chamkot said that a teacher has already been posted to the school on a need basis.
The concerned school is also lacking the necessary infrastructure in this regard as the school has only three rooms in which over five classes along with the office is functioning even as the locals are demanding that the necessary upgradation of the school should be carried out for ensure better and effective facilities to children.
