LONDON, Aug 9: Prince has revealed that his new album Hitnrun will be released exclusively via Jay Z’s music streaming service Tidal.
The new material will be made available on the service on September 7, the service confirmed in a statement, reported Digital Spy.
The exclusive deal is announced a month after Prince removed his music from all other streaming services, including Spotify and Apple Music, early in July.
In a statement, the artist praised the working practices of Tidal, saying: “After one meeting, it was obvious that Jay Z and the team he has assembled at Tidal recognise and applaud the effort that real musicians put into their craft to achieve the very best they can at this pivotal time in the music industry.
“From its conception and that one and only meeting, Hitnrun took about 90 days to prepare its release. If that’s what freedom feels like, Hitnrun is what it sounds like.”
Jay Z added: “Prince has always been a visionary, a free-thinker. We’re honoured to offer his breadth of work, 1999, Purple Rain, etc., music that has inspired so many, on Tidal. We’re also excited to be the home for his new upcoming album Hitnrun.” (PTI)
