JAMMU, Dec 12: J&K Private Schools Association (JKPSA) said that the State Government is discouraging the initiative of marginal profit earning unaided private schools which are working for the welfare of mankind by issuing draconian orders.
Addressing a press conference, Prof JL Kotwal, Chairman of the Association said that it is very unfortunate that education has become a mean of cheap politics, adding that a nation cannot grow up if its education and health are ignored.
Prof Kotwal said that Association submitted memorandum of demands to the higher authorities of the concerned department, but issuing draconian orders to discourage the marginal profit grower unaided private schools has become fashion by the successive Governments at State level.
President of the Association Kamal Gupta while speaking highlighted demands including exemption of private schools from review of policy of “no detention” up to elementary level, abolish 8th class board and minimize the hurdles and increase in number of formalities while obtaining recognition, affiliation to the private schools functioning since decade.
He also demanded fixing of fees of tutorials, tuition centers, coaching centers and hobby centers at par with private schools, upper limit of fee should be fixed by the Government so that an unaided private school will be able to fix its fee in consultation with the parents accordingly, private schools should be permitted to form their own academic calendar, make amendments in SRO 123 in consultation with the stake holders, infrastructure required for running private schools should be as per SSA and RMSA norms, give loans at cheaper and subsidized rates and sufficient time should be given to expand the infrastructure of institution as is being done in the Government sector.
He also highlighted various other demands including all the conditions which are imposed on the private schools should be in accordance to what the Government is providing to the Government schools, dimension of the classroom should be as per the strength of the students in a class, exempt unaided private schools from all types of labour and commercial laws, etc.
The members of the Association appealed to the Chief Minister for immediate intervention to redress the grievances of unaided private school in the entire State, otherwise they will organize press conferences at the district headquarters followed by mass rallies and protests in shape of token strikes across the State.
Among others present were Rameshwar Mengi, Vice President, Ajay Gupta, General Secretary-cum-State coordinator, Sanjeev Luthra, Lal Chand, Ram Mohammad Vivek Chouhan, KK Langar, Siddheshwar Sadotra, Ram Parkash, Gansara Singh, Laddi Sharma, GS Katal and Sat Pal Mansotra.
