JAMMU, Dec 21: Two Members of Legislative Council (MLCs) today moved a privilege motion against Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Taj Mohi-ud-Din for making derogatory and contemptuous remarks against Legislative Council Chairman Amrit Malhotra.
The contempt notice has been moved jointly by PDP MLC Murtaza Ahmad Khan and NPP MLC Syed Mohammad Rafiq Shah.
The motion was filed today before Mr Malhotra, who has forwarded it to Privilege Committee chairman Ajatshatru Singh.
According to the privilege motion, Taj Mohi-ud-Din had held a press conference on November 14 during which he made derogatory and contemptuous remarks and cast aspersions against the Legislative Council Chairman “with an intention to lower respect and dignity of the institution of the Chairman and undermine authority of the House”.
“Before and after the press conference, Taj Mohi-ud-Din had gone public by way of making press statements wherein he had leveled false, frivolous and baseless accusations against the Chairman as well as the House”, the MLCs said.
They have also enclosed documents, transcripts and video clippings along with their privilege motion about the conduct of the Minister.
The MLCs have sought that the Chairman should take serious note of the matter and initiate appropriate proceedings of contempt/breach of privilege against Taj and grant exemplary punishment to him.
