Priya reviews World Heritage Week arrangements

JAMMU, Nov 14: To review the arrangements for celebration of World Heritage Week to be observed from November 19 to 25, Minister of State for Information, Education and Culture Priya Sethi chaired a high-level meeting here today.
Highlighting the significance of the event, the Minister said that the World Heritage Week is celebrated to generate awareness about the cultural heritage sites and their conservation world- wide. She said the State has rich cultural heritage and special programs would be organised to showcase their relevance and preservation for the future generations. She called upon the authorities to involve students of colleges and schools in the week long events to promote the noble cause.
She directed that all Deputy Commissioners should convene awareness programs in their districts with the maximum involvements of students by conducting heritage walks to the heritage monuments and also convene cleanliness drive in the heritage monuments for their conservation.
“Major heritage buildings will be illuminated by the respective departments during the week and Department of Libraries will display the rare books and manuscripts at Ranbir Library Jammu and SPS Library, Srinagar,” she added.
The meeting was attended by Secretary, Department of Culture Hemant Sharma, Municipal Commissioner, Jammu Mandeep Kour, Secretary Cultural Academy Dr. Aziz Hajini, Director School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Jammu University, Director Archives J&K, Convener, INTACH Jammu Chapter and officers from School Education Department and Higher Education Department.
Priya directed the Archives Department to display the rare manuscripts, paintings and antiquities for a week so that general public and students in particular can take benefit of our rich heritage both at Srinagar and Jammu.
She also directed for conducting cleanliness drive at heritage complex Mubarik Mandi and Dewan Mandir during the week. School Education Department will conduct visits of students to heritage monuments for apprising them about their historical importance, she added.
The J&K State Cultural Academy shall also conduct a week long program for showcasing the rich cultural folklore of  J&K State.
