JAMMU, Sept 10: A delegation led by former Minister and incharge ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Paraho’ BJP Priya Sethi met Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha here, today and apprised him of several issues in general and women matters in particular.
Sethi appraised the Lt Governor about the problems and discrimination to which women are subjected even after the abrogation of Article 370 and 35 (A) from erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State.
The delegation comprised of vice president BJP, Anuradha Charakjee; secretary BJP, Anju Dogra; Rekha Mahajan, corporator and co convenor, BBBP, Rekha Manhas.
Sethi appraised the LG that despite a new dawn has emerged for J&K after August 5 last year, the women in the UT are still deprived of their rights and facilities. She apprised him that in different departments of J&K, the women folk is facing neglect.
Priya Apprised the LG about the deprivation of women over issuance of Domicile Certificates, which is a cause of concern and sought his immediate intervention in the matter.
“The historical decision of Abrogation of Article 370 has paved the way for the National Commission for Women (NCW) to act on complaint filed before it by women of the newly created UT as the Article 370 barred NCW from acting on such complaints before August 5, 2019. “As Jammu and Kashmir is a large UT the offences against the women and children are on rise which has increased more in COVID-I9 lockdown period. As such the fate of hundreds of women and children are hanging in balance as there is no head and they have no idea whom and where to approach at the time of distress,” she added.
She requested the Lt Governor that this Act be notified for the welfare of women and children in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir as early as possible. The delegation also sought judicial use of Nirbhaya Fund in the newly created UT.
Besides, other issues, Anuradha raised the issue of people suffering from COVID-19. “There is chaos and confusion in hospitals amid Covid-19 pandemic,” she said.
The delegation asked the LG, Manoj Sinha to establish more COVID-19 hospital and till that time convert other hospitals into COVID hospitals and establishment of more hospitals.
The Lt Governor assured for early redressal of their issues.
