Pro-people policies led J&K towards peace, prosperity: Mir

SRINAGAR, July 28: Minister for Tourism, Ghulam Ahmad Mir today said that the economic welfare of rural and kandi areas is the top priority of the Government, adding that special schemes launched time to time to uplift the rural and hilly areas have started yielding positive results.
Addressing a public meeting today at village Omoh in Dooru, the Minister said Government’s priority is to upgrade communication, education and health cover in these areas and extend help to generate economy and give fillip to education and health care facilities. He said the Government would work consistently to give special attention to development in these areas.
Reiterating the commitment of the State Government towards holistic development of all the regions of the State with special focus on far-off and hilly areas, the Minister said the Government’s pro-people policies and exemplary initiatives have placed the State on the track of peace and prosperity. He affirmed that this would be carried forward with a mission to ensure all-round development of rural as well as kandi areas.
The Minister said the initiatives taken by the Government during the past over four years towards bringing accountability and transparency in the administration is worth appreciating. “The Right to Information Act, Public Service Guarantee Act, holding of free and fair Panchayat elections were the landmark steps taken by the Government in improving governance structure in the State,” he said.
Highlighting the priorities under tourism sector, the Minister said that all such areas having tourism potential would be brought on State’s tourism map for their development and creation of necessary infrastructure.
Referring to the development of Dooru constituency, the Minister enumerated several measures taken for holistic development of the area. He said besides up-gradation of infrastructure under core sectors, the varied tourism potential of the area received focused attention, adding that work on several tourism projects has been already completed, while some projects would be completed this fiscal and many more projects are in pipe line including construction of rope way at Verinag.
The Minister called upon the people to come forward and take more and more benefits by the welfare schemes launched by the Government for their economic transformation. He also asked them not to pay heed to the hollow sloganeering of vested interests, whose motive always remained to create wedge among the communities for their personal interests.
Mir called upon the Panchs and Sarpanchs to highlight the problems and developmental needs of the people before the Government for their early mitigation from proper fora. He said that they should also ensure that benefits of flagship programmes like MGNERGA, NRHM, PMGSY, R-APDRP and RAMSA reach to all villages and hamlets.
Meanwhile, the Minister visited several villages of the constituency and took stock of people’s problems and developmental needs. He assured the villagers that all their genuine demands and developmental needs would be extended in phased manner.
