JAMMU, Mar 2: Panun Kashmir (PK) held a meeting of its Executive Council today here at Jammu. The meeting was presided over by the president, PK, Varinder Raina. The prominent among those who attended the meeting included among others Prof. M. L .Raina Advisor, Upinder Kaul general secretary, Kamal Bagati general secretary (Org.), J L Koul, vice president, Ashok Chrungoo treasurer, Sameer Bhat, convenor, PK Youth, Vimla Chrungoo, secretary, DOPK, Santosha Sharma, S. K. Bhat, P K Durani, B L Garyali and Vikram Singh Chib.
Virender Raina, president, PK said that after abrogation of Article 370 and 35A it is important to take a stock of the situation. The stone pelting incidents have come down and the terrorist actions have also declined. Time will decide whether it is a reality or it is lull before the storm. The coming Summer will definitely give an inkling to which direction the insurgency from Pakistan will move forward. Let us hope that the clouds of terrorism will soon dispel and become the history of past. Kashmiri Pandits need social and political rejuvenation to aspire for what they have been struggling for all these three decades. There is absolutely no need of complacency on this account. “We reiterate our demand for establishment of a ‘Special Crimes Tribunal’ to go into the excesses committed against the Pandits in Kashmir for the last four decades”, he added.
Upinder Kaul, general secretary said that Panun Kashmir appreciated the recent statement of Farooq Khan, Advisor to the Lt. Governor that Kashmir was a pure Hindu State only some hundreds of years ago. If the archives, literature, museums and documents and books are any indication, it suggests the same theory. His assertion that Kashmiri Pandits have been the worst hit and the Government is keen to resettle them in the Valley again is also an encouraging signal. The only issue remains to take the Pandits in complete confidence about this issue.
Kamal Bagati general secretary (Org.) while speaking on the occasion said that Kashmiri Pandits need not to be swayed by the artificial narratives like “forgive and forget, reconciliation, healing touch, confidence building measures, goodwill of the majority community and trust etc.” These narratives are aimed at to justify the insurgency for face-saving now and the Pandits cannot be party to this artificial and unnatural bonhomie. What is required is that the Pandits should be included in the discussion regarding their settlement and issues of their economic rehabilitation.
