Probe malpractices in recently held Aligarh fair: Dalveer

ALIGARH, Feb 23:
A former minister and RLD MLA from Barauli constituency in the district has demanded a high-level probe into charges of alleged malpractices in the recently concluded Aligarh Agricultural and Industrial Fair.
Dalveer Singh told news persons that he would not only be raising the issue in the ongoing assembly session but he would also be pressing for a regular audit report following widespread allegations over the issue of appointment of middlemen for arranging entertainment programmes.
“This year another gross irregularity was the failure of district authorities to hold the annual general body meeting of the management committee for reviewing all budget provisions,” he claimed.
The fair is one of the oldest one of its kind in North India and had been started in the early 1890s in the form of an annual horse and cattle fair.
For more than a century it has been attracting handicrafts from different parts of the country apart from exhibits of modern technology and agriculture.
In the past couple of years there has been a marked decline in the participation of outside handicraft elements following allegations of mismanagement and harassment of participants and traders. (PTI)
