Process of sensitizing stakeholders begins ahead of schools re-opening

Srinagar, Jan 25: After the Government went ahead with the decision of reopening schools, the District administration Srinagar today started a campaign to sensitize teachers, students and other stakeholders regarding the COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

In this regard, a special programme-cum-awareness meeting was held at Banquet Hall Srinagar in which all the stakeholders participated.
The district administration officials told Excelsior that they are going to come up with a plan under which further activities which include training the teachers and making the students aware of various aspects that they need to understand and adhere to when the schools are reopened.
“Basically the idea is to train the staff and teachers of the school as to how to deal with any situation after the schools are opened which includes social distancing, hand hygiene and other related things; we have a detailed plan which is being framed in this regard,” Additional Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Hanief Balkhi told Excelsior.
The program was presided over by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary alongside with the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Srinagar.
The program was also attended by the doctors from the Department of Community Medicine, GMC Srinagar, Chief Education Officer (CEO) Education, RTO Kashmir, all the Zonal Education Officers (ZEO) and Heads of various institutions.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary told reporters that ahead of re-opening of schools, the administration has launched a month-long COVID-19 safety awareness programme for educational institutions.
“Special training will be imparted to the teachers. Safety and hygiene support will be given by district administration; the teachers have to form a strong good bond with parents for which teachers will be trained,” he told reporters here.
“The district administration will frame the ‘School Safety Plan’, under which interactions will be held with both parents and students,” Chowdhary said.
Head of the Department Community Medicine, GMC Dr Salim Khan told Excelsior that they tried to educate those who were in attendance about the need of following the SOPs and other essentials.
“We gave a lecture on the need for SOPs and other precautionary, safety measures along with a presentation by Dr Rabanie of the department which also focused on the same; the program that was held today is expected to be held at Zonal levels as well,” he said.
Officials told this reporter that it was a start of the preparations for the reopening of the schools with adherence to the SOPs and other measures so that the infection does not spread once the schools are reopened.
Apart from that, the schools have also been asked to submit the necessary changes to be made in the infrastructure that might be required keeping in view adherence to the SOPs to concerned officials so that the requirements and needs are up to the mark once the schools are reopened.
