Proclamation proceedings initiated against militant in Pattan

SRINAGAR, Oct 8: Government today initiated proclamation proceedings against a militant in Pattan area of Baramulla district.
A police spokesman said that Baramulla Police in coordination with the Revenue Department initiated proclamation proceedings against an active militant Abid Qayoom Lone, son of Abdul Qayoom Lone, resident of Wussan Khoie Pattan who was allegedly involved in several acts of militancy.
He said that in this regard, case FIR No 120/2023 U/S 7/25 IA Act, 18, 20, 23, 38, 39 UA (P) Act, 4/5 Explosive Substances Act stands already registered against him at Police Station Pattan.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla Amod Ashok Nagpure while sharing the details said that Baramulla Police is committed to uphold the law and to ensure the safety and security of general public. “We are working closely with other agencies to follow due process and bring such elements to justice,” he said.
“These proceedings have been initiated against the terrorist who is evading his arrest as open non-bailable warrant dated 17/08/2023 could not get executed against him. Accordingly, proclamation notice under section 82 of CrPC issued by the Court of Additional Sessions Judge Baramulla dated 09/21/2023 has been pasted and circulated at his residence and other prominent places in his respective native villages along with revenue officials with the directions that the said wanted terrorist shall surrender before investigation officer or court of law otherwise further proceedings will be initiated accordingly against him. The Police Party was headed by SDPO Pattan assisted by SHO PS Pattan and In-charge Police Post Wussan. The exercise was carried out in presence of Executive Magistrate Pattan and Sarpanch, Lumberdar, Chowkidar of respective village,” he said.
Baramulla Police also used drum beating to inform the general public about the ongoing efforts to apprehend Lone.
“In addition to these efforts, Baramulla Police is actively engaging the community to ensure a terror free District. Recent initiatives also include the introduction of community policing programs and heightened security measures,” he said.
“The proclamation proceeding and property attachment are part of a comprehensive effort to address terrorism and maintain the rule of law. We urge the public to remain vigilant and report information that may assist in the apprehension of the active terrorist,” he said.
