Proclamation proceedings initiated against militants in Shopian

SRINAGAR, Oct 7: Proclamation proceedings were today initiated against two militants in Shopian district by Police and Revenue authorities.
A Police spokesman said that Shopian Police in coordination with the Revenue Department has initiated proclamation proceedings against two militants Bilal Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Rasool Bhat resident of Cheki Cholen and Abid Ramzan Sheikh, son of Mohd Ramzan Sheikh resident of Chotipora Shopian.
He said that they are allegedly involved in many acts of militancy for offences in several cases (FIR No’s 24/2018 PS Zainapora, 94/2017, 266/2021, 05/2022, 40/2022, 214/2022, 215/2022 PS Shopian, 28/2018 PS Heerpora, 52/2018 PS Shopian, 59/2019 PS Heerpora, 84/2021 PS of Shopian, 10/2022, 28/2022, 36/2022, 116/2022 of PS Heerpora and 65/2023 PS Shopian).
The SSP Shopian Tanushree said that Shopian Police is committed to uphold the law and to ensure the safety and security of the general public. We are working closely with other agencies to follow due process and bring such elements to justice.
“These proceedings have been initiated against active terrorists who are evading their arrest as open non bailable warrant dated 06/09/2023 could not get executed against them. Accordingly, proclamation notice under section 82 of CrPC issued by the Court of NIA has been pasted/circulated at their residences and other prominent places in their respective native villages along with revenue officials with the directions that said wanted terrorists shall surrender before investigation officer or honourable court of law otherwise further proceedings will be initiated accordingly against them. Police Party Shopian was headed by DySP Hqrs Shopian assisted by SHO PS Shopian, SHO PS Heerpora and DO PP Hermain. The exercise was carried out in the presence of the Executive Magistrate, Shopian, Hermain and Sarpanch, Lumerdar, Chokidar of respective villages,” she said.
Shopian Police also used drum beating to inform the general public about the ongoing efforts to apprehend the said active militants who are required in connection with investigation of several cases of militancy.
In addition to these efforts, Shopian Police is actively engaging the community to ensure a militancy free district. “Recent initiatives also include the introduction of community policing programs and heightened security measures,” she said.
She said that the proclamation proceedings and property attachment are part of a comprehensive effort to address militancy and maintain the rule of law. “We urge the public to remain vigilant and report information that may assist in the apprehension of these active terrorists,” she added.
