JAMMU, Nov 18: The Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, here today organized a motivational lecture ‘Towards a Better Society’ by Prof Achyuta Samanta, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha), educationist, philanthropist, founder, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS).
In his address, Prof Samanta compassionately underlined that one must be good to oneself and start valuing his/her own self, then only one can be in a better position to contribute to the best of abilities. He further added that it is equally important that we should focus on self-acceptance. He further said that his life is a classic example which again emphasizes that a person with a humble background but a missionary zeal to acquire an education can reach to the pinnacle of success.
Prof Samanta has been working relentlessly for zero poverty, zero hunger and zero illiteracy. He is the founder of the Art of Giving concept, which he has launched officially in 30 countries and in more than 210 places across India. For him, education is the key to self-liberation and higher enlightenment.

Prof Rajni Kant, Dean Research Studies, JU, presided over the function. In his presidential remarks, he endorsed the thoughts of Prof Samanta and emphasized that education empowers, enables and enlightens us, thus creating a better society and we all should work for it. He urged young minds to kindle the thrust for consistent learning and use it for the betterment of society.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Prof Prakash Antahal, Dean Students Welfare, expressed gladness over having such a dynamic personality to address and inspire the youth of Jammu. He shared that the Department of Students Welfare is always keen to organize such programmes which are for the larger benefit of the students, stakeholders and society.
Prof Vishav Raksha, Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee, introduced the speaker and said that Prof Achutya is a visionary, an iconic educationist, an epitome of humanism and an inspirational speaker who has devoted his life to the marginalized.
