JAMMU, Oct 8: A one day national seminar on “Changing Contours of Culture in Literature of Twenty First Century” was organized by the Department of English, University of Jammu and Prof D K Rampal Memorial Trust , Jammu, in connection with annual Prof D K Rampal Memorial Academic events, here yesterday.
Justice J P Singh, Member J&K Accountability Commission, was the chief guest while Prof R D Sharma , Vice- Chancellor, JU, presided over the inaugural function.
Justice J P Singh stressed on the need for proper interpretation and learning from good literature in order to improve the civic values and ethics to come-up as better human beings and polished citizens to serve the society. “Literature is not everyone’s field, only those who have undergone elevation of self and see through realities of life are suitable for this field. Literature continues to work in the making of such a man who serves as an ideal for others to follow”, he said while memorizing Prof D K Rampal.
Prof R D Sharma, in his presidential address, describing Prof D K Rampal as a towering personality not only as a litterateur and teacher but also as a friend, guide and philosopher whose contributions to the University, the teaching community, academics and society at large are unforgettable.
Prof Y R Malhotra, a doyen of Academics and administration ,who also happens to be a former Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University and Member of J&K Legislative Council, in his address as Chairman of Prof D K Rampal Memorial Trust , dwelt with various other activities of the Trust like running a Charitable Hospital , holding regular medical, educational, and social awareness camps round the year and helping the people during various calamities like the floods, and during road blocks and various other charitable function of the trust and making people more aware over the civic sense.
Prof. Pushpinder Sayal from Punjab University, Chandigarh delivered the keynote address, in which she touched upon all the relevant facets and changing contours of culture in context of twenty first century with special reference to the process of digitalization and robotics and its use in the day today life without which we cannot survive.
Earlier, Prof Sucheta Pathania, Head Dept of English and Convener of the seminar, outlined the purpose and structure of this seminar. Prof. Satnam Kour, Dean Students Welfare, proposed the vote of thanks.
