Prof Dinesh Singh exhorts students to become creative think tanks

JAMMU, Dec 21: Cluster University of Jammu organized an interactive session with Prof Dinesh Singh, former Vice Chancellor, University of Delhi, Chancellor, KR Mangalam University, Haryana and also Vice Chairman Higher Education Council JK UT.
Prof Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, also graced the occasion. While Prof Bechan Lal, Vice Chancellor, CLUJ, threw light on the impeccable contribution of Prof Dinesh Singh in academia and policy making.
In his deliberations, Prof Dinesh Singh exhorted for the utilization of digital technology and facilities to strengthen the conventional education system which relies more on rote based learning. He stressed it is imperative that teaching process should focus on honing the creative and critical acumen of our young learners. He added that in order to excel in the technology driven world, students ought to become creative think tanks for a productive and progressive social order. “Also, digital facilities should be optimized to the maximum benefit and access of students,” said Dinesh Singh.
Citing examples on the contemporary relevant issues, like global warming the recurrent climate changes around the world, melting of polar ice, destruction of rain forest and sea-level rise etc, he exhorted that teaching should emphasize on making use of digital resources to understand the basics of climate change.
The session was followed by a power point presentation on Climate Studies by Dr Praveen Mishra, Assistant Professor, Geology, PG School of Sciences in which he discussed the crucial role of climate change in our day-to-day life. He pointed out that Climate Studies is an interdisciplinary science which includes the involvement of expertise from several field of science and social sciences. In addition, he also discussed about digital resources – as compiled by several experts from Cluster University, available online to understand the basics of Climate Studies.
The Interaction was attended by Registrar, Deans of Faculties, Controller of Examinations, Financial Advisor and Assistant Professors of PG Schools of CLUJ. Dr Twinkle Suri, Dean Students Welfare, conducted proceedings of the programme and presented the formal vote of thanks.
