JAMMU, May 10: The former Union Minister of State for Defence, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta has stressed the need of keeping in view all the pros and cons while considering the suggestion for ceasefire during the holy month of Ramzan and the pilgrimage of Swami Amarnath.
In a Statement, Prof Gupta said that the idea to give a chance to peace is not bad. But in this regard the experience of the past should also be taken into account as ceasefire cannot be one sided affair. The experience of 2002 ceasefire was not encouraging. It was rather more painful that ultras had stepped up their activities and committed several heinous crimes. This increase was as high as 37 percent in a month.
The fact remains that the ultras active in the State are being guided by their masters who are operating from across the border. More so, these terrorists are that of one group or a body, he added and said that their real command and control is in the hands of ISI of Pakistan army, which have launched proxy war against India over Kashmir.
Prof Gupta said that efforts should continue for peace and contain violence by rectifying internal problems but the real malady is the belligerency from across the border which needed treatment.
