JAMMU, Apr 30: Former Union Minister and MLA, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has described the educational policy of the State as dubious, designed under communal and regional considerations, which has caused more harm to the unity of the people than enlightenment.
Expressing disappointment over the reports that because of the falling standards of education in the Government schools and other institutions, the parents of the children are aspiring for admission of their children in private academies. He said that major part of the State budget is being spent on education but due to awful results and mismanagement coupled with the moves of certain vested interests the Government set up is proving just a white elephant. The Government stands in the dock to explain who is responsible for all this mess.
Prof. Gupta observed that the educational policy of the State has been a big humbug since the end of Maharaja’s rule.  The new rulers under a design started basic education in Hindu dominated areas in Devnagri script and in other parts of the State Persian script was adopted to teach Urdu. And thus a clear divide was created. But more than this as Urdu was being  the official language of the State, Hindi knowing lot became alien as for as many of the State services are concerned, he added and pointed out that many of the youths of Jammu areas have been deprived of Government jobs but for they did not know Urdu.
Prof. Gupta also said that this policy has caused many other problems also. Now in general it has been agreed to provide Urdu knowing teachers in all the areas including Hindu dominated ones but in practical they are missing.
He strongly advocated for total review of the State Education Policy and experts Committee of the Commission should be appointed to go into whole melody and also pin point the responsibility for this sad situation along with remedial measures.
