JAMMU, Oct 28: In a surprising development, Jammu University Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohan Pal Singh Ishar is learnt to have submitted his resignation from the top position, three months ahead of completion of his tenure.
In the resignation, submitted today to Governor N N Vohra, Prof Ishar has requested that he may be relieved from the assignment as Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University owing to personal reasons, highly placed official sources informed the Excelsior.
Though there was no official word over the development, sources hint that the Government, who is also Chancellor of the University, is likely to accept the resignation of Prof Ishar.
Pertinent to mention here that Prof M P S Ishar had joined Jammu University as Vice-Chancellor on January 27, 2012 and his three-year tenure would complete on January 27, 2015. Before his joining as VC JU, he was Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Guru Nanak Dev University, Punjab.
As Professor in GNDU, Prof Ishar is going to attain the age of superannuation on November 3, 2014 and according to the sources, he has been offered a new project there paving the way for his extension for three years.
Since the decision on possible extension of Prof Ishar as JU Vice-Chancellor is in limbo due to imposition of Model Code of Conduct in J&K because of scheduled Assembly polls, the incumbent has preferred to join back on his previous position for an extension, sources explained.
