JAMMU, Oct 13: Professor Lalit Magotra, prominent writer and president of Dogri Sanstha Jammu, was today awarded with prestigious Kunwar Viyogi Sahitya Kala Samman – 2024.
The award ceremony, held at Dogri Sanstha Jammu, was a part of the 9th annual Kunwar Viyogi Utsav to celebrate the life and works of the Sahitya Akademi Awardee, Kunwar Viyogi- often referred to as the ‘Father of Dogri Sonnets’.

Prof B S Sahay, Director of IIM Jammu, who was chief guest on the occasion, presented Lifetime Achievement Award to Prof Magotra, in the presence of Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust Founder, Poonam Singh Jamwal, KVMT Chairman Goverdhan Singh Jamwal and prominent literatures.
On the occasion, young Dogri writers – Satish Kumar and Pawan Verma were awarded with Kunwar Viyogi Sahitya Puraskaar – 2023-24 for their first published book.
Annual Prem Jamwal Art and Innovation award- 2024 was presented to India’s first all girls Dogri band – The Dogra Girls. Vocalists Kriti Singh, Cherish Banhotra and Kashika Bassi, for their Dogri song Kunjua, composed and directed by renowned Dogri music director and singer Jitender Singh Jamwal.
Sonali Dogra was honoured at the event with a citation for her sensational Dogri song Baabul – The Wedding Song, composed by noted Dogri music director Brij Mohan.
The event began with a welcome address by renowned Dogri writer and linguistic, Prof Veena Gupta, followed by introduction of Kunwar Viyogi Sahitya Kala Samman – 2024 by KVM Trust founder, Poonam Singh Jamwal. She stressed the need to develop a user-friendly Dogri app for promotion of Jammu.
Senior Broadcaster, AIR Jammu, Madhavi Sharma read Prof Mangotra’s citation and Prof Sahay presented the award to Prof Magotra. The chief guest also awarded winners of Kunwar Viyogi Sahitya Puraskaar – 2023-24, Prem Jamwal Art and Innovation award- 2024 and Sonali Dogra.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Sahai lauded the initiatives of KVM Trust for the promotion of Dogri literature and talent.
Following the award presentation ceremony, Dogra Girls performed their award-winning song Kunjua, live before the audience.
Vote of thanks was presented by KVM Trust Chairman Goverdhan Singh Jamwal.
