JAMMU, Jan 22: A book of Hindi poetry, authored and translated from Dogri by Prof Lalit Magotra, was released here today at Jammu University.
Tastefully designed and printed book, entitled `Shabda Se Maun Tak’, contains 80 poems covering diverse aspects of life. A detailed and scholarly paper on the book was presented by the noted Hindi poet and critic, Dr Aruna Sharma, who delved deep into the poetic merit of the poems and stressed that there is a strong philosophical undercurrent in most of the poems. Prof Magotra recited some of the poems from the book which showcased the wide spectrum of the poetry.
JU Vice-Chancellor Prof R D Sharma presided over the book release function while Prof Anju Bhasin, Vice Chancellor of Jammu Cluster University was chief guest on the occasion.
In his presidential address, Prof R D Sharma said that Prof Lalit Magotra, a multidimensional personality covering science, education, literature, culture etc, has made a significance contribution to the development and growth of the Jammu University where he served as Professor and at many senior positions. Even after retirement, Prof Magotra is contributing immensely to Dogri literature and language through multifarious activities and publication of this book of poetry is one such activity, he added and appreciated Prof Magotra for expanding sphere of readership of Dogri literature by translating this book into Hindi.
Prof Anju Bhasin recounted her long association with Prof Magotra as a colleague in Jammu University and said that the later has an inherit quality of leadership and he inspires confidence among his colleagues. She said that the poetry of Prof Magotra is very meaningful and reflects his philosophical views about life. At places, it departs from the traditional and strongly held general views, she said and expressed hope that this book will be well received, especially by lovers of serious literature.
The program was conducted by Prof Shashi Pathania, former Head of the Dogri Department in JU and a well-known scholar of Dogri. She punctuated the proceedings by her subtle and critical remarks to highlight the various aspects of the poetry contained in the book.
