SRINAGAR, May 12: Prof Manzoor-ul-Amin, founder and former Head, Media Education Research Centre (MERC), Kashmir University, today interacted with the alumni of Media Education Research Centre (MERC) at media house of the varsity.
Prof Amin visited the Varsity in connection with the two day National Seminar, on “Television and New Communication Technologies- The Changing Paradigm of Education” which began at KU today. EMMRC, KU had organized this interactive session of Prof Manzoor-ul-Amin with alumni of MERC.
EMERC Director, Dr Shahid Rasool, presented the welcome address and laid the strong foundation and the road map for media education in Kashmir. Dr Rasool narrated his experiences as a student at MERC way back in 1985 when Manzoorul Amin started the department and said it was great to be in his patronage and guidance.
Addressing the students and faculty at MERC, Prof Amin described Kashmir as the most beautiful place in the world. He termed credibility, accountability, transparency, objectivity, authenticity and topicality as the essentials of good journalism.
The HoD MERC Prof Mufeed Ahmed termed the day as “Historic day” for the department.
Senior faculty at EMMRC Farooq A Lone narrated his experiences with Prof Manzoor ul Amin and said that he is an inspiration for students for all times to come.
Speaking on the occasion, senior faculty of MERC, Nasir Mirza described Prof Amin as a ‘living legend’.
MERC also presented a memento to Prof Amin as a token of love and respect.
On the occasion, MERC alumni announced three prizes to be given to students’ write ups, features, pictures or caricatures.
