JAMMU, Apr 18: Son of soil and eminent Sanskrit scholar Prof Pritam Chander Shastri has been conferred with President Award recently.
Prof Shastri received the prestigious award from Vice-President, M. Venkaiah Naidu at a function held in New Delhi. He has been awarded for his work and promotion of Sanskrit in Jammu and Kashmir.
Prof Shastri had been selected for the award for his work, excellence and promotion of Sanskrit in trouble torn Jammu and Kashmir.
He received a shawl, certificate of excellence and an amount of Rs 5 lakh which was transferred to his bank account on the same day.
Born on April 12, 1941 in Jammu, Prof Shastri obtained his Shastri and Acharya degrees from Jammu University and Vidyavaridhi from Sampoornanand Sanskrit University, Varanasi. He has taught a great number of Post-Graduate students and has produced 20 PhDs under his guidance.
Prof Shastri also published 6 books namely, Vikramank, Sahityikam Sarvekshanam, Lalita Shatakam, Shrilal Shatkam, Jambu Shatkam and Kavitav Swami Shiv Swami. He has participated in World Sanskrit Conference, Oriental Conference and All India Kavi Sammelan. He retired as Professor from Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, Shri Ranbir Campus Jammu and presently engaged in propagation and promotion of Sanskrit in Jammu and Kashmir.
