Prof Rajni Kant nominated as Indian Representative to IUCr

JAMMU, Sept 18: Professor Rajni Kant, Professor of Physics and Dean Research Studies, University of Jammu, has been nominated by Indian National Science Academy (INSA) as Indian Representative to the Commission on Crystallographic Teaching of International Union of Crystallography (IUCr).
The IUCr is the world’s apex body, having a union of ninety-one member countries in the field of experimental and theoretical X-ray Crystallography. This recognition is the outcome of a strong research activity and the scientific output created by Prof Rajni Kant at University of Jammu during the past over three decades by way of getting funds under sponsored research projects.
In a communication as released by Professor Annalisa Guerri, Chair, Commission on Crystallographic Teaching, Italy, the commission consists of nine representative academicians from USA, Canada, Argentina, Spain, Italy, Japan, South Africa, India, Japan and Germany. Besides this, the commission shall have few consultants from UK, Russia, Brazil, France and Poland. The nine-member Commission, to be headed by Professor Annalisa Guerri, shall be responsible for creating awareness and interest in some under-developing countries regarding teaching and research in Crystallography/Materials Science by way of organizing various Schools, Workshops and Conferences across the globe.
Pertinent to mention that Prof Rajni Kant, a Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry, UK, is the serving National President of Indian Crystallographic Association. He has parted his role well in making Jammu University’s name and visibility at the national and international level. He was recently appointed as Vice-Chancellor, Rabindranath Tagore University, Bhopal, the position he shall be joining shortly.
