JAMMU, May 8: BJP State spokesperson, Prof. Virender Gupta endorsed the statement of Kavinder Gupta, MLA Gandhi Nagar constituency and Speaker of State Assembly that practice of Darbar move should be abandoned as it costs State exchequer heavily.
The spokesperson said that practice of Darbar Move was adopted in Jammu and Kashmir as well as in some of the other parts of the country because of the special circumstance prevailing at that time when means of communication were limited and the electronic communication was almost negligible.
He said because of the advancement in the electronic communication, air journey and better road facilities this practice was abandoned in rest of the areas of the country whereas it still persists in J&K State.
He further said that Darbar Move practice in J&K State is also one of the factors that is eating State money which otherwise would have been utilized for development purposes. He added that because of Darbar Move the Government remain cut off from the common masses for six months, of Jammu province or that of Kashmir province and as such the grievances of the people are not properly addressed. “Taking into consideration the peculiar situation of the Valley, diversity, vastness and difficult terrain of Jammu & Kashmir State, it is essential to keep the Government approachable to the people of all the sections and areas”, he said and added that it shall go a long way in strengthening the democratic process in the State and in resorting peace and tranquillity.
He suggested that Secretariat, Directorates and offices of Corporations should remain operative in Jammu city as well as in Srinagar city. He added that Secretaries/ Commissioners and the ministers should regularly move between the two capital cities on rotation basis after a particular span of time.
