JAMMU, Mar 22: Prof Yash Pal Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Jammu, delivered an insightful lecture on “Connecting Teaching and Research for a Sustainable Ecosystem in Higher Education” at an international seminar organized by the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) in New Delhi.
The seminar, held at the India Habitat Centre, focused on “21st Century Leadership in Higher Education.”
A statement said that addressing a diverse audience of academic leaders, researchers, and scholars from 15 countries, Prof Sharma emphasized the importance of integrating teaching and research to enhance the quality of education in universities and higher education institutions (HEIs).
He shared strategies for improving the learning experience by incorporating research into the curriculum, engaging students in research projects, and promoting research-based teaching methods.
He also highlighted the role of student participation in research as a way to generate more relevant and practical results.
According to Prof Sharma, combining research with teaching not only sparks faculty members’ intellectual interest but also encourages collaboration across disciplines.
Prof Sharma further urged stakeholders in education to embrace new technologies, set clear goals, develop both hard and soft skills, and maintain a healthy work-life balance to achieve holistic education.
The seminar was inaugurated by Prof M Jagadesh Kumar, Chairman of the University Grants Commission, and was organized under the leadership of Prof Shashikala Wanjari, Vice-Chancellor of NIEPA, with program coordination by Dr Sangeeta Angom.
