Programme on early detection of drug abuse held in Samba

JAMMU, July 21: A three days training programme on ‘Early Detection of Drug Abuse and Post Detection Management’ was held at Conference Hall, DC office Complex Samba. The programme was organized on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Samba, involving Social Welfare, School Education and other line departments.
On the occasion Nawaaz Sharif , DSWO Samba presented a welcome address and highlighted different issues associated with drug Abuse.
During the session, the DC Samba Abhishake Sharm spoke on early identification of drug abuse. While experts on substance abuse also briefed the participants about early identification and post management of the problem.
At the conclusion of 1st phase of the programme, DSWO Nawaz sharif appreciated efforts of the Departments collaborating for the programme and said the experience from these training sessions will help the frontline workers to work more effectively in the field to curb this menace.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner Samba opined that the sheer scale of students studying in educational institutions in the district provides a significant consumption base of narcotic drugs. He said that the drug abuser shall not be stigmatized, instead of treating them as criminals,the approach should be to treated them as victims, they should made to quit drugs and brought back to normal life through proper sensitization and trust building.
The DC said that the focus should be on identifying the perpetrators who are root cause of the problem. He said that the Drug abuse also leads to other issues like domestic abuse etc therefore there should be inter-departmental synergy while dealing with such issue. The district administration is working towards a comprehensive approach by which the demand for drugs is curtailed by choice, the trainees should make the most out of this session, he said.
Program Officer POSHAN Subhash Chander, Chief Education Officer Kewal Krishan, DWSO Nawaz Shareif and DIO Monika also took part in the programme.
