“Project Hidayat” launched for skill development

KATHUA, Mar 3: District Administration, Kathua, has launched Project “Hidayat” – a special initiative for skill development of identified target groups and linking the training programmes with employment and entrepreneurship.
In Phase-II 10 programmes have been launched for residents of 22 border villages in Hiranagar sub-division which will be extended to 57 villages. Special Training-cum-Development Centres are being established in Hiranagar, Marheen, Bani, Basohli, Billawar and other remote areas which will serve as permanent training hubs and production centres.
District Development Commissioner, Kathua, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, launched the special phase of project for border residents under which 250 youth and women are being imparted skill development training and provided aid for starting their own units and production centres. The avenues offered to border residents include a batch of 70 trainees for driving course, 60 for poultry development, 30 for animal husbandry, 12 for computer course, 50 women trainees for cutting and tailoring course and a batch of 20 trainees for course of electrician through ITI.
A training centre is being constructed at Manyari village as a part of cluster training centre development. Training centres are also being established in catchment areas.
Apart from skill development, an amount of Rs 1.73 crore was released for various developmental works which includes Rs 60 lakhs for developmental works in 8 border panchayats, Rs 80 lakh for construction of toilets, Rs 13 lakh for PHC and Rs 15 lakh through Rural Development Department for works. Fifty community kitchens for schools in border areas were also approved which will be set up later this month through JKEDA.
The skill development and other works have been launched under BADP and in convergence with other centrally sponsored schemes. Meanwhile, Secretary to Government, Social Welfare Department, Sanjeev Verma, approving the proposal of district administration has also conveyed for additional funds under TSP and Art 275 for this innovative project having a number of employment linked skill development programmes.
