Sir,
Noticing the increase in the daily influx of the tourists the natives of Basohli town have been requesting the state government to take measures for managing, retaining and enhancing the number of the tourists who have been visiting Basohli to enjoy at the Atal Setu, RSD lake and at the Purthu beach. It will not be an exaggeration if we call Basohli the only place in the Jammu division where the tourism is flourishing and progressing by leaps and bounds without a bit of cooperation of the State Government. But for the co operation of the natives the tourism at Basohli would have died before it started flourishing. The major attractions at Basohli are the Atal setu, a master piece of latest technology, crystal clear water lake and the attractive Purthu beach. A good number of students from the engineering colleges and the tourists from the adjoining states throng in hundreds to enjoy at Atal Setu Lake and the beach. The main events of the Basohli tourism are related to Group photography, selfies, pre wedding and TV serial shootings. In the absence of the interstate vehicular traffic the whole span of the bridge remains live with the teams of families from bride and bride groom’s families.
The dancing parties from Punjab, Himachal and Haryana are seen dancing at the tunes of DJ’s. Many families spend their weekends at Basohli where they enjoy at the lake. The picturesque Purhtu beach comes alive when visitors organize campfires and cultural activities. It is very sad that there are no arrangements for the facilities of the tourists, not to talk of the waiting halls, food points, urinals, there is even no provision for the potable water. The tourists share bathrooms and homes of the natives during the hot, rainy and winter days and for changing costumes of the brides and bride grooms during the shots. Neither the LSDA nor the newly formed Basohli Bani Development Authority takes any interest in the tourism trade . The motor boats worth crores of rupees, for the tourists are lying un operational since they were purchased and now they have become mere exhibits. In the absence of the motor boat rides, the tourists spend their whole days in the scorching heats of the summer in the open without potable water and return disappointed. It is high time for the Government to give first priority to the Basohli tourism.
