Promotion of RS Pura, Suchetgarh Basmati Govt’s priority: Hanjura

JAMMU, June 30: Minister of Agriculture Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura while making reference to Chief Minister’s Special Development Project viz Suchetgarh Basmati Rice Cluster(SBRC) to promote organic Basmati and R S Pura Basmati Rice Cluster of Choalla (RBRC) to promote intensive cultivation of export oriented Basmati on the lines of Apple and Saffron villages of Kashmir and Rajmash village in Bhadarwah which have been launched recently said the Government has initiated various steps in this regard and it is the priority of the Government.
The Minister said this during his visit to Mohanpur and adjoining villages of Arnia in R S Pura Subdivision today while inspecting the crop fields of farmers, interacted with them and discussed the extension functionaries on latest techniques and farmers welfare schemes with them.
The Minister also inspected the newly launched mechanized harvesting and thrashing of maize crop and vegetable crops at Mahanpur, Arnia and addressed gathering of farmers at Dablehar, R S Pura. He stressed on production of organic, safe and pesticide free vegetables and other agricultural crops for the safety and health of all.
Hanjura stressed that multiple crop growing should be adopted to increase the farm income and to achieve the target of doubling the farmers income by 2022 as envisioned by Prime Minister of India and Chief Minister of the State. He also stressed on reducing of cost of production, diversification and asked to focus attention on Post harvest Management and marketing of the produce. This he said was necessary to uplift the economic conditions of the farmers. He said his visit is also to interact with the farmers to learn about the difficulties faced by them.
He urged the officers to visit to the farmers and inform them about various farmers welfare schemes and also educate them about the improved and latest crop production technologies.
Director Agriculture Jammu H K Razdan, Director Extension SKUAST Jammu, Dr K S Risam, Joint Director Agriculture (Inputs) Jammu K S Samyal, Chief Agriculture Officer Jammu R L Bhagat and other senior officers of the Department accompanied the Minister.
