JAMMU, Feb 15: In a major crackdown on drug peddling, Police today attached properties of two notorious women drug dealers in Rajeev Nagar area here.
A police official said that the action was carried out under the provisions of Section 68(E)(F) of the NDPS Act, 1985.
According to him, the attached properties, valued in lakhs, belong to Poonam and Khemo Devi, both residents of Rajeev Nagar, Jammu.
He said, after reviewing the FIRs lodged against the accused, police have reasons to believe that the properties in question were acquired through the proceeds of illegal drug trade.
The valuation of the properties was jointly carried out by the Revenue and R&B Departments and the attachment process was executed in the presence of an executive magistrate and a team of senior police officers, including SP South Jammu, SDPO East, DSP (P) Nadiya Farooq, DSP (P) Zarqa, SHO Bahu Fort, SHO Channi Himmat, and Incharge Police Post Narwal, he said.
The police official said both individuals have a history of involvement in drug-related crimes. He said Poonam has three FIRs against her in 2020, 2023, and 2024 under the NDPS Act.
Notably, she was previously arrested under PIT-NDPS and had been released from jail just three months ago. Khemo Devi, and her family, the police official said, also have four FIRs filed against them from 2018 to 2024.
Addressing media persons regarding the police action, SP Jammu South, Ajay Sharma said, “JKP is focussed to deal with the menace of drug trafficking and peddling, as the force is dealing with the crime like a war.”
“But we need community support to ensure that the future of our coming generations is secured. People have to come together to achieve the desired goals,” he said.
