Proprietor of medical shop arrested for fleecing attendants

*Operation of 4 drugs sale outlets stopped

JAMMU, July 6: Following complaints regarding fleecing of gullible people outside Psychiatric Hospital, Bakshi Nagar police nabbed a proprietor of a medical shop.
However, Drugs and Food Control Organization also stopped the operation of four drugs sale outlets as they failed to provide proper sales records for the drugs falling under Schedule H1.
As per official spokesperson, Medical Superintendent of Psychiatric Hospital, Bakshi Nagar lodged a complaint at Bakshi Nagar police station regarding touts operating in the premises of the hospital.
Acting on the complaint, police team from Bakshi Nagar police station led by SHO Inspector Ashwani Kumar under the supervision of SDPO West Sandeep Choudhary, SP City Shiv Kumar Singh Chouhan and Incharge SSP Jammu Rajiv Pandey arrested a tout namely Nikhil Bakshi, son of Rakesh Bakshi, a resident of Reshamgarh. The arrested person is proprietor of M/s Aradhya Medical Hall, Reshamgarh, Bakshi Nagar.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered against him at Bakshi Nagar police station and investigation started.
Meanwhile, a team of Drugs Inspectors namely Nisar Ahmed Dar and Gagan Bharadwaj under the supervision of Assistant Drugs Controller, Jammu Surinder Mohan Tikoo conducted inspections of medical shops M/s Aradhya Medical Hall, M/s Kohli Medicare, M/s Metro Chemists and M/s Landmark Medical Hall at Reshamgarh Bakshi Nagar.
The firms couldn’t provide proper sales records for the drugs falling under Schedule H1 and their operation were stopped with immediate effect, he said, adding that further course of action will be decided after serving notices to the said firms.
The premises of M/s Aradhya Medicos was found closed and the Proprietor Nikhil Bakshi was arrested on the allegations of indulging in unethical trade practices, he added.
He informed that M/s Landmark Medical Hall, Bakshi Nagar, Jammu was found operating without the services of approved qualified person namely Jatin Anand.
“In some cases, reports of sale of lesser known brands of intoxicating drugs have also been reported. All the related issues are being investigated and stringent action shall be taken against the defaulter firms”, he added.
When contacted, Medical Superintendent of Psychiatric Hospital Dr Osmani Saudia confirmed that some of the chemist shops operating outside the Hospital premises have been indulged in touting business and also fleecing gullible end-users by using unfair trade practices.
