JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said educational institutes in the state should properly nurture young talents to enable them to lead the country in future and address problems of the society.
“Youths are the architect of future and agents of change towards positivity and betterment… Schools nurture young talents and universities give rise to best possible human resources to lead the country and address public affairs with energy and commitment,” Omar said at a Jammu University event.
He said Late Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, who laid the foundation stone of the university campus in 1976, had dreamt of an educationally-prosperous Jammu and Kashmir and laid strong edifice for educational development.
“My endeavour is to work for realisation of the vision of educated Jammu and Kashmir envisioned by Late Sheikh Sahib,” said the CM, also the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the varsity.
Omar said progress in respect of expansion and consolidation of schools and higher education institutes during his tenure has been phenomenally conspicuous.
“Today our universities and higher education institutions are on road to excellence. These are emerging as educational hub attracting attention of higher education seekers from all over the country,” he said, adding that the introduction of modern subjects and strengthening of faculties and infrastructure have provided necessary fillip to the growth.
He said he aims at creating an educational environment in the state which would make government jobs least attractive and the last choice for educated youths.
About one lakh educated youth have been provided jobs during his tenure of around five years, he said, adding that the answer to the employment crisis has to be found through a multi-pronged strategy on which his government is working.
The CM mentioned the avenues of self-employment and entrepreneurship created through the SKEWPY initiative and implementation of schemes like ‘Udaan’ and ‘Himayat’.
Omar advised the students to give fullest attention towards their studies and make the universities, colleges and schools seats of excellence, moral education and best centres of human resource development. “You are my strength and the hope of the state. In your welfare and proper nurturing lies the prosperity of the state,” he said.
The Chief Minister also laid the foundation of the Examination Block, built at an estimated cost of Rs 3.48 crore, and interacted with faculty members. (AGENCIES)
