JAMMU, Oct 23: Government of India’s bold and historic decision to celebrate Guru Nanak’s 550th birth anniversary at official level in all States of country and even abroad was welcomed by one and all. Such a decision was great and befitting tribute to great Guru on his birth anniversary.
This was stated by BJP senior leader and former MLC, Charanjeet Singh Khalsa, while addressing media persons at Party Headquarter here , today.
Khalsa said that the issue was discussed with various Sikh organisations of State and public in general to chalk out events for this celebration. Consequently, he called on the Governor of J&K, Satya Pal Malik on November 26, 2018 and submitted a proposal for celebration of this great event in the State and he assured of action.
Khalsa also expressed gratitude the Governor of the State and his administration for acceding to our suggestion for establishing “Guru Nanak Chair” for which orders were also issued by him. This is a great decision and a long cherished dream of Sikh community has become a reality. “Entire community and I convey gratitude to Government for this historic action. This will enable the religious scholars to bring more clarity on the visit of Guru Sahib in the State and his preaching who travelled in all three regions of the State Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh’’, he added.
It is hoped that the other suggestions for organising interfaith Seminar on Guru Nanak’s teaching for “Sarbat Da Bhalaa” will be organised by inviting speakers of highest repute so that right message goes amongst people of all religions and faiths. It is requested that leading Sikh organisations, be taken into confidence to decide and finalize this programme.
Suggestion was also made to preserve the Sikh heritage sites in the State, list of which stands submitted. Khalsa demanded that action may also be initiated so that the historical places become site for religious tourism as also material for historians of today.
It was also requested that land may be allotted to Sikh community for constructing Guru Nanak, Bhawan, near Railway Station, Jammu, where all who visit Jammu for religious tourism get free accommodation and langar for all castes around the clock. This is in tune with basic principle of “Sangat and Pangat” of Guru Nanak’s teaching.
