Protest against desecration of Holy book

SRINAGAR, June 29: Protests broke out on the Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway over alleged desecration of Holy Quran and an attempt to set ablaze a place of worship at Gundhassibhat in the outskirts of Srinagar.
Hundreds of residents of Gundhassibhat and adjoining areas came out on the National Highway after torn pages of a Holy Quran were recovered near an Imam Bara. Reports said another copy of the Holy Quran was found in a half burnt condition and an attempt was made to set ablaze an Imam Bara during last night.
Police have registered a case in Parimpora Police Station and started investigations. The protestors dispersed peacefully for offering Friday prayers but again raised slogans after the prayers.
However, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Asghar Samoon and SSP Srinagar, Ashiq Bukhari, and senior officers rushed to the spot and situation was brought under control.
